The legacy of Judge David C. Cates
Saying Judge Cates was a supporter of CASA and appreciated the CASA volunteers that came before his court is an understatement. Judge Cates presided over Kosciusko County Superior Court 1 for 6 years, and had been elected to serve another term, when he unexpectedly passed away on December 9, 2020. Judge Cates presided over most of the cases in which CASA volunteers are appointed, and more specifically the cases of child abuse and neglect, Child in Need of Services (CHINS) cases. He very much believed in CASA’s community volunteers to be his “eyes and ears” and valued their recommendations in his Court. He believed, and is quoted as saying “Without CASA, there would be a lot more children in bad situations.” As a way to honor and remember Judge David Cates and his support of CASA, and with the support of his widow Kim, CASA of Kosciusko County has formed The Honorable Judge David C. Cates Memorial Leadership Society.
Our Members: Members of The Honorable David C. Cates Memorial Leadership Society are individuals who, through their unrestricted annual support and engagement, demonstrate the commitment and support of CASA of Kosciusko County that Judge David C. Cates exemplified. Membership in the Honorable David C. Cates Memorial Leadership Society is granted to individuals and families who contribute at least $1,000 annually and make a commitment to give such amount annually for 3 years.
Levels of Leadership:
Legacy: $5,000+ annually for 3 consecutive years. At this level you will be ensuring extraordinary advocacy for 5 abused and neglected children each year out of the 195+ children CASA of Kosciusko County serves.
Legend: $2,500-$4,999 annually for 3 consecutive years. At this level you will be ensuring extraordinary advocacy for up to 4 abused and neglected children each year out of the 195+ children CASA of Kosciusko County serves.
Friend: $1,000-$2,499 annually for 3 consecutive years. At this level you will be covering the expense of training 2 individuals to become CASA volunteers who will advocate for abused and neglected children of Kosciusko County.
Membership benefits include: 2 tickets to CASA of Kosciusko County’s annual Holiday Festival, acknowledgment on website, in the annual report and in the annual Holiday Festival program.
